The first time I had ever gone on the internet, I had asked my dad to help me write a report about seals. It was 1994, and my father worked as a programmer, so we had a computer hooked up to the internet, while most kids in my class did not. He helped me find pictures of seals online, print them out, and even email the people who took care of the Washington DC zoo! He helped me type a word document (first time I ever remember doing that, too) I thought it was so, so cool that whenever I wanted, I could look up animals and see pictures of them.

As a kid, I had briefly entertained the notion of being a vet, until my mother informed me that it would mean I would have to see animals in pain, and maybe even put them down.

The first animal I was really into was the rabbit. I had wanted to get a rabbit as a kid but lacked the environment needed to care for them. Rabbits are one of those trickster animals in folklore, like foxes and crows.
